This is not a perfect story. This is my messy mind.
A soft space for anxious, exhausted minds.
I write about OCD, intrusive thoughts, burnout, motherhood, and the messy process of feeling like myself again.

The Little Things Making Life Feel Softer Lately
Lately, life has been loud.
Not bad. Not dramatic. Just full.
And somewhere between all the things that need to be done, I have started noticing the tiny moments that make everything feel a little softer.
Nothing life-changing.
Just the kind of things that make me stop for a second and think:
Oh. This is nice.
Like when my little boy runs around the house screaming:
“Muuuuum, I love you!”
Or when he suddenly grabs my hand while we are out for a walk.
Even when my partner simply comes closer for a quick, soft kiss in the middle of an ordinary day.
In a world that always seems to be moving, these are the moments that make me stop.
They remind me what actually matters.
I have been trying to do less lately.
The problem is that right now, doing less is not exactly easy.
My partner is still recovering from surgery, which means he needs to rest more and cannot lift anything heavier than one kilogram.
So for now, I am doing pretty much everything.
Including all the driving.
And soon he is leaving for a month for the second year of his master’s degree.
I know it is only a month.
I know we will be fine.
But every now and then, I look at him and my eyes fill with tears before I even have time to stop them.
Recently, I read a quote in a book that stayed with me. I am terrible at remembering exact quotes, but it was something along the lines of:
I can live without you, but when you are away, it feels like my home has been taken from me.
And yes.
That.
That is exactly the feeling.
Of course I can function without him.
I can drive, work, take care of our little boy, manage the house and keep everything moving.
But that is not the same as wanting to.
There is something about having your person nearby that makes ordinary life feel more like home.
I think I have been learning this more and more lately — that sometimes the best parts of life are the quiet, completely ordinary ones.
Maybe that is also why I have been noticing the little things more lately.
The hand holding mine.
The kiss in the kitchen.
My little boy yelling that he loves me from another room.
A quiet cup of tea.
A few minutes where nobody is rushing anywhere.
Maybe that is why quiet feels different to me now — I have learned that I can crave it deeply and still miss the people who normally fill it with noise.
My birthday is coming soon, and I genuinely do not want anything big.
I want health.
I want time with my two boys.
Oh — and the cat.
Obviously the cat.
Our ridiculously hairy white cat Marcus, who apparently believes my clothes are his personal bed.
I want more quiet moments between us.
More laughter.
More ordinary evenings.
More of that simple, uncomplicated love that does not look particularly impressive from the outside but somehow makes everything else worth it.
I am grateful for my life.
For the beautiful parts of it.
Even for some of the painful ones that changed me along the way.
But I also feel something shifting.
I am grateful for where I am.
And at the same time, I think I am ready for a new chapter.
I do not know exactly what that chapter looks like yet.
Maybe I do not need to.
For now, I just want to notice the little things.
Because lately, they are the ones making everything feel a little softer.
Maybe Your Story Belongs Here Too
Sometimes the moments that stay with us are not the big ones.
They are a little hand reaching for ours.
A kiss in the kitchen.
Someone shouting “I love you” from another room.
A quiet evening that feels unexpectedly perfect.
If there is a small moment in your life that has been making everything feel a little softer lately, I would love to hear about it. 🤍
